PETCO’s Search for the Fastest Chihuahua

As a volunteer for Chihuahua Rescue and Transport, I’m working with PETCO again this year to promote its 3rd annual Search for the Fastest Chihuahua. This year, 15 cities have been chosen for the regional races to be held over 3 weekends (May 5: Sacramento, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York and Miami. May 12: Boston, Phoenix, Anaheim, San Francisco and Dallas. May 19: Seattle, Denver, San Diego, Houston and Washington, D.C). The winner of each region will be flown with their owner to San Diego for the National Finals on September 2, at PETCO Park, home of the San Diego Padres. The best thing is that the final race will be held in between innings during a major baseball game!

The last two years, I recruited chihuahuas to promote the race on morning news shows (WB11, ESPN, and Fox Friends). My dog Dottie and I each got our 15 seconds on TV. This year I’m setting up a booth for CRT at the New York regional race to be held at the PETCO in Valley Stream, NY on May 5. I’ll be there to promote rescue, recruit volunteers for CRT, and cheer on the little guys. I’ll take lots of pictures and share them here. If you plan to be there, please stop by and say hi.

My dogs never got the chance to race in the regionals, we were out of town both times. This year, we won’t be able to do it either because a friend is getting married in St. Louis during the national finals. If only I could enter Dash in the race, I’d bet all his rawhides that he could take New York by storm. At one point, I had 5 chis in my house and we took them to the park and lined them up for some friendly races (yes, we looked ridiculous), and Dash won by far every single time! He’s not the Mad Dasher for nothing.
